KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Dr. James V. (Jim) Carmichael, Jr.
Dr. James V. (Jim) Carmichael, Jr. is professor of Library and Information Studies at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro where he has taught full time since 1989. He teaches basic reference courses and academic libraries on a regular basis, along with history of libraries. He received his BA in French from Emory University (1969)along with his MLS. He completed his doctoral dissertation on Tommie Dora Barker and Southern Librarianship in 1988 at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has written extensively on southern library history, gender issues, and LGBT history and librarianship. He shares his home with an 18 year old cat named Cosima CanCoon Quixote, has been avidly involved with UNCG’s Faculty Senate (Secretary, 2012-2016), the American Association of University Professors (President, North Carolina Conference, 2014-2016), Facebook updates, and is spearheading a year-long celebration of Herman Melville’s work for Scuppernong Books.
